2009 NFL Power Rankings: Week 2

Week two of the NFL season offered a lot of surprise upsets that dramatically effected the Bloguin pollsters rankings. 3 of the top 4 teams (Steelers, Patriots, and Eagles) all lost from last week's power rankings, opening up the door for teams like the Giants, Ravens, Falcons, and Saints to make significant jumps in the rankings.

Below are some items that stood out:

- 7 teams moved up 4 slots or more, a feat that may be not be repeated again as team's bodies of work become more expansive.

- The second tier of the NFC continues to be a very bunched up group with the Niners, Bears, Packers, Cowboys, and Cardinals taking up spots 12-16 in this week's rankings.

- The pollsters were torn on who was the worst team in the NFL with the Lions and Rams tying for last place. Let the debate get started!

- From our pre season rankings, the Niners, Saints, and Jets are the three biggest climbers with the Jets going 12 spots from 20 to 8 and the the 49ers moving from 24 to 12. The Saints now sit at 4th having originally started at 16th. Our biggest losers have been Tennessee and Carolina.

- This is the first week a NFC team has been number one. No team has yet to defend its top ranking for a second consecutive week. The Bloguin Power Ranking curse maybe?

- The Titans at 0-2 are ranked ahead of the Broncos who are 2-0.

- Out of the top 8 teams, 3 of of them have starting QB's with less than 20 starts in the league. Can the young guys keep it up?

I like these rankings

As a Bears fan I think they are in a pretty practical spot at 13. A bad secondary and linebacking corps missing its leader means they'll probably be nothing more than an average defense this year. The easy schedule they have (even easier with a now Hasselbeck-les Seahawk team) might be enough to put them in the playoffs though.
