Bynum undergoing routine knee procedure

Written by Kyle Boenitz on .

Los Angeles Lakers center Andrew Bynum has had a career riddled with injury problems. It looks like he’s going to take a few extra steps to make sure he stays healthy this year.

The L.A. Times is reporting Bynum will miss All-Star practice tomorrow to get something called a “Synvisc” injection in his right knee. It’s supposedly a routine procedure that just lubricates the joints.

“A website for Synvisc says an injection typically cushions a joint and provides up to six months of osteoarthritis relief.”

Bynum has managed to stay healthy this year and helped the Lakers to a 20-14 record at the All-Star break in a year when they were really supposed to fall off.

Even though the Lakers aren’t the Western Conference powerhouse they used to be, if everyone stays healthy, they’ll be a tough team come playoff time. Hopefully for Andrew Bynum, this “magic juice” being injected into his knee keeps him on the court for the rest of the season.
