Nike unveils 2012 Team USA gear

Written by Trevor Zickgraf on .

Team USA Hyper Elite UniformsWe haven't even hit the All-Star break yet, but Nike is already thinking ahead to July.  Monday, the sneaker giant gave the public their first look at the 2012 Team USA uniforms and at least one signature shoe players will wear in London.

Nike debuted a ton of their 2012 gear today, including the USA Basketball Hyper Elite uniform.  According to Nike, the jerseys are the lightest ever and are seemingly earth friendly (who knew you could recycle polyester).  The "USA" logo also got a redesign, giving it more of a triangle design than the 2008 & 2010 logo.  If you ask me, it looks like the Stussy design we used to draw in school.  We also got our first look at the 2012 Nike Zoom HyperDunk, which LeBron James and others will be wearing in London.

Another interesting piece of information that came out today's unveiling were the three players chosen to wear the uniforms.  LeBron, Kobe Bryant and Kevin Durant are shoe ins for London, but I think a lot of people put Deron Williams as a fringe guy because Chris Paul is a lock for the team and the emergence of Derrick Rose and Russell Westbrook.  Does this mean Williams is a lock?  Do you think Nike consulted Jerry Colangelo and Coach K before choosing which guys were used to model the uniforms?  Guess we'll know soon enough.

The Team USA news didn't stop there.  Nike also announced that the "Dream Team Collection" will be available this summer to honor the 20th anniversary of the team that changed basketball across the globe.  The "Dream Team Collection" will feature both shoes and clothing, including throwback shoes from different eras of USA Basketball.  That includes the Air Force 180's that Charles Barkley and David Robinson rocked in Barcelona, the Air More Uptempo that Scottie Pippen wore in Atlanta in 1996 and the Air Zoom Huarache 2K4 that Kobe Bryant and other wore in Beijing four years ago.  Thanks to Nice Kicks for compiling all of the Dream Team Collection for your viewing pleasure.

Nice Kicks also revealed today the Jordan Brand will also get in on the Dream Team anniversary fun by releasing the Air Jordan 6/7 Gold Medal pack.  We can also expect Dwyane Wade, Carmelo Anthony and Chris Paul Team USA colorways to drop some time before London.

No word on when any of these will be available to buy or how much they'll cost.
