New York Knicks star forward Carmelo Anthony revealed this week that he has just completed a 15-day fast. That is right, the guy that is averaging 32.3 points per game, 6.5 rebounds per game and 4.3 assists per game during January has been going without most food during that period.
Apparently this is a yearly ritual for Melo. According to the NY Daily News:
It’s just for my own sake. Sometimes in life you need clarity in your life. You kind of want to replenish your body, build your body back, get all the toxins, unuseful things that you don’t need in your body out,” Anthony said.
“I do this every year, once a year. I usually do it during the season, do it the same time every year,” he said. “No meats. You can do carbs. No fried food, no bread, no soda.
It is amazing to think that the All-Star has been playing as well as he has, given the lack of energy you would expect.
However, with the fast over, Anthony is looking forward to getting into whatever food comes this way. Even some Honey Nut Cheerios.
Yes, that is right. Cheerios came up, after an altercation between Anthony and Boston Celtic Kevin Garnett on the court recently. KG reportedly described Anthony's wife LaLa Vasquez as tasting like Honey Nut Cheerios. Melo obviously did not take kindly to the alleged remarks and was hit with a one-game suspension for going after the Celtics veteran antagonist.
Anthony did manage to take humour from the mention of Cheerios though, saying that he was hungry enough to even attack a bowl of the sweet breakfast treat.
The Knicks forward led the home side to a Sunday 100-87 win over the New Orleans Hornets in Anthony Davis' Madison Square Garden debut. Anthony put up 27 points and grabbed seven rebounds.
