Bloguin Heisman Poll Week Four

Written by Kevin on .

bloguinheisman

Week four of the College Football Season is in the books. Texas A&M to the SEC is officially official and Oklahoma State gave them a nice kick on the way out. The Florida Gators look like they are back and LSU never left. But you aren't here to talk about the games, you are here to talk about the players. Last week was week three of the Bloguin Heisman Poll as Marcus Lattimore made his move with a 246 yard performance against Navy. Did he hold his lead this week or was there somebody who impressed the voters even more than Lattimore?

Here is what you'll see each week in the Bloguin Heisman Poll:
-The Top 5 total vote getters and quotes from bloggers in support of their candidates.
-A list of all players that receive votes in the Bloguin Heisman Poll
-Poll Notes that look at some of the interesting facts, figures, and trends of the poll.
-The BHP Roll Call of voters, the links to their respective blogs and their twitter accounts.

Without any further adieu, the Bloguin Heisman Poll...

1) Robert Griffin III (QB-Baylor) - 29 Points, 30.21%, 7 1st Place Vote

Last Week BHP Ranking: #4

Last Week: 29/33, 338 yds, 5 Passing TD, 51 rush, 1 Rush TD

Season: 70/82, 962 yards, 13TD, 0 INT;  167 rush, 1 Rush TD, 1 Rec

This Week: at Kansas State

* Robert Griffin was not a one-week wonder. Griffin has 13 touchdown passes and just 12 incompletions this season. Griffin had 394 total yards against Rice with six touchdowns in leading the Bears to a 3-0 start. Griffin has thrown for 944 yards and run for an additional 168 yards.

- Tom Perry, Eye and Eer

* I'm elevating RG3 to the top spot this week for a couple reasons. First, he is playing phenomenally well. Honestly, no quarterback in the country can match what he has done so far. Second, I think he's even more important to his team's success than the guy I have at No. 2 (Kellen Moore).

- Allen Kenney, Blatant Homerism

* I'm on board the RGIII band wagon, although I'm interested to see what he does against some of the better teams he will face this season, including Texas A&M, Oklahoma State and of course Oklahoma. The stat that has been making the rounds around the Internet the past couple days is that Griffin has 13 touchdowns and just 12 incompletions (zero interceptions). Is it the system? Perhaps partially, but Griffin III is doing some magical things when he is on the field. After watching the quarterback situation unfold in State College, every chance I get to watch Griffin III is pure joy.

- Kevin McGuire, Nittany Lions Den

2) Marcus Lattimore (RB-South Carolina)- 18 Points, 18.75%, 2 1st Place Votes

Last Week BHP Ranking: #1

Last Week: 20 rushes, 77 yds, 1 TD, 6.65 ypc, 3 rec, 73 yds, 1 TD

Season: 107 rushes, 611 yds, 8 TD, 5.71 ypc, 152 rush ypg, 12 rec, 1 TD

This Week: vs Auburn

* The South Carolina tailback remains atop my Heisman list with 611 rushing yards and eight TDs. He also has a TD through the air and 139 receiving yards for the Gamecocks. Though only a sophomore, he has literally carried his team to a 4-0 record overall record and 2-0 in the SEC.

- Pete Sonski, College Football Zealots

* With 600 rushing yards and eight touchdowns in four games, Lattimore is the nation's best running back.   In an off night against Vanderbilt, he had "only" 150 yards from scrimmage and two touchdowns. He is a stud and South Carolina is going to ride him as far as they can.

- Kris Brauner, Saturday Night Slant

3) Andrew Luck (QB-Stanford) - 16 Points, 16.67%, 4 1st Place Votes

Last Week BHP Ranking: #2

Last Week: Idle

Season: 57/85, 786 yards, 8 TDs, 1 INT; 1 rushing TD

This Week: UCLA

andrew-luck-2

* Luck is the Heisman frontrunner and the top vote getter from last year, the NCAA's best quarterback and future #1 NFL draft pick who has elevated Stanford into a national power. He's undefeated this year and hasn't done anything to merit losing his frontrunner status.

- Dale Newton, The Duck Stops Here

* Luck has the name value and the reputation, and is probably the leader in the clubhouse thus far.  As long as Stanford keeps winning, he's in the discussion.

- Matt Yoder, Awful Announcing

4) Kellen Moore (QB-Boise St) - 12 Points, 12.50%, 1 1st Place Vote

Last Week BHP Ranking: #3

Last week: 23/29, 279 yds, 4 TD, 0 INT

Season: 83/105, 995 yards, 12 TD, 2 INT

This Week: Nevada

* My vote remains unchanged.. I would add more but nothing was overtly impressive other then Kellen tossing 4 touchdowns in less than 2.5 quarters of play.

- Darth Prophet, The Blue Turf

* I think that if BSU goes 12-0, he will have a good chance at the title, but will the voters agree? He only played 2 1/2 quarters last week against Tulsa and went 23/29, 279 yards, 4 TDs, 0 INT. Keeping up this pace could give him the best shot a non AQ BCS team has had.

- Hamilton Riley, Lambeth Field

5) Russell Wilson (QB-Wisconsin) - 9 Points, 10.78%, 1 1st Place Vote

Last Week BHP Ranking: #5

Last Week: 19/25, 345 yds, 3 TDs, 0 INT

Season: 69/91, 1136 yds, 11 TD, 1 INT, 108 yds rushing, 1 rushing TD

This Week: vs Nebraska

russell-wilson-wisconsin-badgers

* Russell Wilson: If the Heisman really is an indication of college football's most outstanding player, than so far, it's been Wilson. I know the Badgers haven't played anyone of merit yet, but 11 touchdowns, one interception and a 76 percent completion rate? Give me a break!

- Aaron Torres, Aaron Torres Sports

* Wilson has torched the cupcakes that the Badgers have played so far. He put up 345 and 3 TDs against South Dakota. Wilson is 2nd in pass efficiency, 8th in passing TDs, and 9th in yards. His competition gets a lot stiffer with Nebraska this week.

- Scott, Bearcats Blog

Also Receiving Votes:

LaMichael James (RB- Oregon)- 3pts, Brandon Weedon (QB- Oklahoma State) 3 pts, Trent Richardson (RB- Alabama)- 2 pts, Geno Smith (QB- West Virginia) 1 pt, Shea McClellin (DE- Boise State) 1 pt, Justin Blackmon (WR- Oklahoma State) 1 pt, Landry Jones (QB- Oklahoma) 1 pt

Dropped Out:

Denard Robinson (QB- Michigan)

New to the Poll: Trent Richardson

Poll Notes

- RG3 gained 17.46% in the poll this week and also gained 6 first place votes. All of the other Top 5 finalists all lost traction in this weeks poll.

- In his off week Andrew Luck only lost 4.9% of his votes and 1 first place vote.

- Our top 5 players teams have combined for a record of 17-0.

- Baylor has never had a Heisman Trophy Winner. The last Big 12 QB to win the Heisman was Sam Bradford in 2008 and before that it was Jason White, also of Oklahoma, in 2003.

- This week RG3 goes up against the #2 pass defense in the Big 12, the Kansas State Wildcats. Through 4 games the Wildcats have only allowed 157 yards per game. Of course, Kansas State's schedule hasn't exactly been a who's who of college football (Eastern Kentucky, Kent State, Miami). Last week the Wildcats did give up 272 yards to the Hurricanes.

- Marcus Lattimore gets Auburn this week. Auburn is currently dead last in the SEC in stopping the run as they are giving up 226 yards per game on the ground.

- Andrew Luck faces off with the UCLA Bruins. When the Bruins played Case Keenum in week one they gave up 310 yards passing.

- Kellen Moore has the revenge factor in his corner this week as the Broncos play the only team they lost to last year, the Nevada Wolfpack. So far this season Nevada is 6th (out of only 8 teams) in the WAC in pass defense as they give up 235 yards passing per game. When the Wolfpack played Oregon earlier this year they gave up 331 yards through the air and six (yes six!) touchdowns while surrendering 69 points to the Ducks.

- Russell Wilson faces off with a Nebraska Cornhuskers team that has struggled a bit this year. The Huskers gave up 254 yards through the air to Fresno State and 274 yards through the air against Washington. In those games the Huskers faced two sophomores in Derek Carr and Keith Price.

Final Thought From Aaron Torres

Keep an eye out for this: Now in the Mountain West, Boise doesn't have nearly as many games on ESPN as they once did. Will this make people lose track of just how good Kellen Moore plays on a week in and week out basis?

Nice work, Kevin.

Now that I think more about it, can't believe no one voted for Tyrann Mathieu. He's arguably impacted more big games than anyone this year. @snslant was talking him up to me before the year - great call.

@Blatant Homerism@snslant Totally agree with you on that one. Interestingly enough he did get a vote in week one but hasn't been on a ballot since. If there is a defensive player in the country deserving of being in the conversation it's him.

Lets see if I can keep firefox running for longer then 30 seconds now.

After typing several response only to have the browser crash a complant I get from folks trying to view my site, let me just start by asking a few question .. Do you believe the any ncaa finding is legally binding?

Do you believe there is no corruption in AQ divisions officiating? Do you believe the big east replay official only had a sideline replay of the extra point try ? Do you believe a BCS champion is a real champion? Do you really believe college football is about anything other then the money? Do you believe everything that comes out of Mark Mays. Lee C and Craig James mouth?

CFBZ
CFBZ

@DarthProphet I don't believe there is corruption. At least not at a high level. I mean it's possible there are some dirty refs (like the NBA had) that change the outcome of the game in order to swing bets but I don't think that happened in the Toledo game. That was just gross incompetence. If there is "corrupt" officiating, they wouldn't make a blatant call like that one. That was just straight up poor officiating. And if you believe that the Big East did it on purpose then you are crazy. After Syracuse jilted the Big East for their new lover (the ACC) you can bet your ass that the Big East would have loved to see Syracuse fall.

Do I believe the BCS Champion is a real one? Sure, why not? I would prefer a play-off but until I get it then the BCS decides the champion and I feel they get it right more than they get it wrong.

Mark May and Craig James are idiots. I think most would back me up on that. Lee Corso is pretty much just out there for entertainment. I like the guy but I'm not taking his word as the gospel.

P.S. I don't have any issues with firefox and my site or this one so it sounds like a computer issue. Maybe you Boise State fans should stop downloading so much porn.

@CFBZ LOL have you herd about the dutch 3 yet?? nice game Toledo had in columbus so honest were the officials 9 reprimands were handed out to cover their arses, then of corse that was a fluke in in the dome even though the whole world knew they missed it .. no corruption here move along.. yep how'd those 5 game suspension work out at ous ?? reduce by the school to 3 after their nightmare game against Toledo.. and how quick was cam cleared as well as the osu players last year.. yet the dutch 3 went through what they did.. can't wait to compare the results of osu issues with the ncaaa as compare to Kellen letting guys sleep on his couch.. and some coupons for food being handed . out yeah you keep living in that dream world you got there and I'll be pointing out the hypocrisy at ever turn. Now I wonder if they wasn't so much corruption or is it incompetence in the ncca aq divion would Toledo be 3-1 with wins over osu and srycruse?

I didn't say anything about spelling. I just found your words difficult to understand. You seem to have several thoughts running around and are jumping back and forth.

Here is what I believe about the NCAA. They are an under-manned group that relies on people to turn other people in (or for news organizations to do their work for them). Unless they have hard evidence they have received from a source then somebody must admit to then that they've done something wrong (see also: AJ Green of Georgia) in order to be found "guilty". The NCAA would love nothing more than to nail Auburn's ass to a wall but they simply have not found anybody credible to come forward with actual evidence.

In terms of Boise State. The football team would have probably gotten away with what they did (which I, like you, don't think was bad) if there women's tennis team wasn't so corrupt.

With all due respect to Darth, the SEC has earned all the love that they have received. As a conference, they are 7-0 in BCS Championship Games and have the best winning % of any conference in BCS bowl games. It's lunacy to try and argue against their worth at this point and calling it "kool-aid" doesn't do anyone any favors as far as their credibility is concerned.

Boise State does six games on national TV the rest of the season, including one on ESPN, between Versus and the CBS College Sports Network. I know it is not ESPN, but he will still be readily available to those with a sports package and the ability to use a TV Guide channel instead of complaining about not knowing where to find these channels.

CFBZ
CFBZ

@KevinOnCFB So do you think the average Heisman voter is going to flip over to Versus to find Boise State playing Wyoming, New Mexico, Colorado State or UNLV?

DarthProphet
DarthProphet

@CFBZ@KevinOnCFB

Other than New Mexico and UNLV all those above mention are 1 loss teams and most will be still one loss teams when they play Boise, but hey who am I'm just the lone voice that would point out a big east crew robbed Toledo, that 9 officials from the Toledo osu game were reprimanded for their calls in the Toledo osu game, am I saying that bcs conferences are so dirty now, that they have infected ref's .. you bet!!! The game is being ruined by both the networks , the ncaa and aq schools. The Black socks have nothing on this criminal organization often called the bcs.

CFBZ
CFBZ

@DarthProphet The SEC has 8 of the toughest 25 schedules this year. They don't need to schedule up out of conference. I would go as far as to say they would be stupid to schedule up out of conference.

When you don't play in a major conference then you need to play tougher opponents on the road. When you play in the SEC and the Big 12 then you don't.

And I don't understand why you keep bringing up Utah State. They played a great game against a very young Auburn team. But they lost. The bottom line- no matter how you play the game- at this level of athletics is wins and losses and they lost. Get over it.

DarthProphet
DarthProphet

@CFBZ@KevinOnCFB Do you really want to compare sec schools non conference recorders specially road games?? lol look deeper .. the sec play's the weakest year in year out non conference schedule of all conferences and they do not travel how very brave of them.. so LSU played an O team in Texas and a hugely over rated wv team that was losing at home to a d2 school barely won they previous game to boot yeh so strong.. You might want to rethink your argument here.. remember UTAH STATE!!

You drink that cool aid with out first looking to see who the sec actually plays as a conference losing argument non AQ fans know this backwards and forwards .. and yeah we've herd the but but we play in a really strong conference so we have to play the little sisters of the poor and many d2 schools we just can't handle a strong road non conference schedule.. and my reply is I know they can't they play one big non conformance game a year and it's given to them every year on a platter.. how nice is that!

Season: 107 rushes, 611 yds, 8 TD, 5.71 ypc, 152 rush ypg, 12 rec, 1 TD

Last Week: 20 rushes, 77 yds, 1 TD, 6.65 ypc, 3 rec, 73 yds, 1 TD

Folks might I point out last weeks very weak performance against Vandy at home, if it wasn't for Griffin III being at the top of this list{I have him @ #2) I would believe you all watch and listen to much sec talk.

KevinOnCFB
KevinOnCFB like.author.displayName 1 Like

So 150 all-purpose yards from a running back and two touchdowns in a game the quarterback was struggling is a bad thing? Part of being a Heisman player is making the plays your team needs to win in the clutch. If not for Lattimore, does South Carolina even beat Vanderbilt?

DarthProphet
DarthProphet

@KevinOnCFB

It was Vandy!!!!!!!!!!!!! Vandy at home .....78th ranked team against the rush!!! Is that red drink you got there?

CFBZ
CFBZ

@DarthProphet@KevinOnCFB I'm not sure what website you use but Vandy is 28th in the country against the rush this year giving up 97 yards per game. South Carolina is the only team to get over 100 yards against them this year. I know it's hard to believe but it's the truth.

CFBZ
CFBZ

@DarthProphet Pot. Kettle. Black. There are only two guys from the SEC who got votes and one of them (Trent Richardson) was only on one ballot. In full disclosure, since you run the Boise State site at Bloguin- how many Boise State players are on your ballot?

DarthProphet
DarthProphet

@CFBZ I wasn't saying the sec guys were bais, I expect them to.. but the espn love for the sec along with cbs is so self serving as they are their major tv players. A quick review of the vonted 6 year run by the sec in the bcs show's a 1 man team beating a suspect O team, osu twice, I dare say that Michigan would of taken Florida to the wood shake that year, would be an understatement, add in an over rated Texas team who qb who had a fluke shoulder blow out. For all their hyped speed Utah state UTAH STATE!!!took their champion to the matt and lacking a onside kick beat them in Auburn. Sorry if I don't drink the cool aid that's been served up about the sec, but then again I'm all for a play off.

CFBZ
CFBZ

@DarthProphet There are biases but we have 16 voters. Only 3 of them actively run what I would consider an SEC blog (myself- even though I try to cover all of college football), Saturday Night Slant (LSU) and Leftover Hot Dog (South Carolina). Lattimore didn't receive any first place votes from those 3 voters and was second on only one of the ballots (not the South Carolina guys).

DarthProphet
DarthProphet

@CFBZ 2 and I will admit it was a close call between Shea and unnamed LSU player for my D pick .. However I did answer your question I said I had no problem with the SEC guys vote and expect a Bais there, it's the others... the non sec home bred fans that are drinking too much cool aid.

If based on 6 wins we can say the sec is Gods gift to college football then certainly considering Michigan dominance over sec teams means they are the Single greatest football team no?

UTAH STATE UTAH STATE!! So much speed and young talent as compared to the BCS champion!! No doubt if that game had been played in Logon, Utah would of blown aurburn off the field.
