College football win totals released in Vegas
Written by David Purdum on .
Vegas has spoken.
Cantor Gaming became the first Nevada sportsbook to post college football season win totals Friday.
- Five teams are set at 10.5: LSU, Alabama, Southern Cal, Oregon and Florida State.
- UNLV had the lowest, with the Rebels projected with just 2.5 wins. Duke and Ole Miss were set at 3.5, and Kentucky at 4.5.
- There doesn't appear to be an overwhelming favorite in the Big Ten with Urban Meyer's Buckeyes, Nebraska, Michigan State, Michigan and Wisconsin all set at 8.5.
- SEC newcomers Texas A&M and Missouri were set at 7.5, the same as Florida, Mississippi State and Auburn.
- Big 12 newcombers West Virginia and TCU are both set at 8.5, the same at Texas and Oklahoma State.
- Georgia was a notable omission, as oddsmakers struggle to gauge the impact of the Bulldogs' off-the-field issues.
- Embattled Penn State was set at 6.5 under first-year coach Bill O'Brien. The Nittany Lions have not won fewer than seven games since 2004.
- Mike Leach's first Washington State team is projected at 5.5 wins.
Cantor operates multiple Las Vegas sportsbooks, including at the Venetian, M Resort, Tropicana, Hard Rock and more.

@geoffjBYU that's regular season right? Too bad I don't gamble. 1-3 on road against tough teams, win everything else.
@BYUfootblog @zbloxham Right on it. That line is a great one to pass. http://t.co/uTh1BFG1
@HoyosRevenge @BYUfootblog @zbloxham It's a lock because this BYU team is better than most people realize.
@geoffjBYU @BYUfootblog @zbloxham Except for the guys who make a living evaluating this stuff. 8.5 is a solid number,
@BYUfootblog @hoyosrevenge @geoffjbyu @zbloxham @corryhatch when you lose to CU at home who knows? USC UW and a crap team
@stampadres @hoyosrevenge @geoffjbyu @zbloxham @corryhatch which are Utah's 3 losses?
@BYUfootblog @hoyosrevenge @geoffjbyu @zbloxham @corryhatch I think Utah goes 8-4 with a chance for 9-3 and BYU goes 7-5 with a chance of 8
@HoyosRevenge @geoffjBYU @zbloxham @Corryhatch I think we go 6-0 at home. Add W's against SJSU and NMSU, and win 1/4 of Utah, Boise, ND, GT
@geoffjBYU @BYUfootblog @zbloxham Except there isn't a lot of reason to think you're winning in SLC.
@HoyosRevenge @BYUfootblog @zbloxham It's your job to think that as a Ute fan. It's my job think the SLC game is a W for BYU this year.
@HoyosRevenge @BYUfootblog @zbloxham I'd say the over is a solid bet. But that assumes team isn't decimated by injuries of course.
@geoffjBYU @BYUfootblog @zbloxham Yeah but y'all are pretending 9 is a guarantee, and I don't see it.
@zbloxham I’m thinking USC at 10.5 wins, pre-Pac-12 title game, pre-bowl, is a #SELL. I foresee 10-2 (eventually 12-2). Hope I’m wrong.
@brendanloy I am really bullish on the Trojans. I would be really surprised if they didn't cover it.
Over. Over. Over. Bet over! RT @zbloxham Vegas sets BYU 2012 win total at 8.5. #BUY #BUY #BUY http://t.co/AoYbEkQ6
@vakaviti Yes BYU is the best team Utah beat all year, and is the 2nd best team they will play in 2012
@HoyosRevenge @bjspack @zbloxham Tulsa. And wasn't BYU Utah's best win per RPI? Can their fans admit that yet?
@HoyosRevenge @zbloxham 1 blowout, 2 close losses (against respectable teams), and 10 wins (many dominant) leads to top 25 finish and 31 RPI
@HoyosRevenge @zbloxham losing by 10 after giving up 21 from special teams is hardly a blowout, Utah was however a blowout
@HoyosRevenge @zbloxham Also Three mishaps on punt snaps (leading to 21 points) makes it seem worse than it was, BYU was not outmatched
@HoyosRevenge @zbloxham What's your point? The BYU Utah game was 14-7 for BYU at one point, doesn't change the outcome
@HoyosRevenge @zbloxham Who did Utah beat regular season besides BYU? Not a single FBS team with a winning record, and lost to RPI 121 CO
@HoyosRevenge @zbloxham Beat everyone that they were supposed to, and most of them very convincingly, not far off on TCU or TX either.
@zbloxham @HoyosRevenge RPI at end of season last year, Oregon St 108, Washington St 106, BYU 31
@HoyosRevenge Vegas has Wazzu at 5.5 wins. Love Leach but they will struggle protecting Tuel. Plus D is slow.
@zbloxham I think you're over estimating that Wazzu game to think its a lock down.
@HoyosRevenge Your view is not outlandish, it is just absolutely unsurprising. WSU and OSU are wins. Just need one of those 4 road games.
@zbloxham You'll need three wins out of ND, GT, OSU, Boise, Utah and Wazzu to get to nine, provided there are no upsets.
