One can only imagine how Williams would help Johnny Football get his mind right. (Photo courtesy: USA Today Sports)
As a Heisman Trophy winner who's not exactly a stranger to controversy, it would make sense that Texas Longhorns legend Ricky Williams would defend Johnny Manziel in the Texas A&M superstar's time of crisis.
Except, when asked about Johnny Football's situation on Thursday at a press conference announcing Williams being hired as the running backs coach at the University of the Incarnate Word, Williams didn't do the expected. (Does he ever?)
"You know once you win the Heisman trophy, there's going to be more attention on you," said Williams. "You are probably not going to be able to get away with all the stuff you got away with before."
The former Longhorn didn't stop there. He took another jab at the 2012 Heisman winner and his background.
"To the media I would say, if the media did their research on who this kid was, nobody would be surprised."
Not exactly the clubbiest fraternity you've got there, Heisman Trust.
Who cares about the big 12, SEC has won how many national champions in a roll? Lets just say a lot! Big 12 are only the bottom 25 while SEC rules the top ten, so you may bash a&m because of their past we look forward to the future. Texas boys will come to play in the power house conference, texas longhorns can have their network I like the SEC!
Ole miss gave us trouble but we got a win!!! So, I guess texas would have beat Bama to, that's a joke! We beat the national champions enough said! Talk over!!
He just didn't get caught! We both know we would have put an ass whooping on the longhorns, ou spanked them, no destroyed them 63 to 21 and we kick the shit out of ou! Hey appreciate the conversation glad we could have a civil talk! After all Texas is a great state, maybe we can get to be as dominate has the longhorns were. I hope to play again, it's so fun to have such a great battle! Enjoy the season! Ricky stay off the weed my friend!!!!
@Jc ags A&M also barely beat Ole Miss, a team Texas destroyed in Oxford. Neither OU nor Ole Miss mean a damn thing, though. Last Big 12 game before A&M ran away:
* you were a 7 point favorite,
* at Kyle,
* your QB is now a starter in the NFL,
* and ours was Case McCoy, God Bless him, a kid who is not very good. He's 3rd string now as a Senior.
But it didn't matter. Mack Brown beat you - again - for the 10th time in 14 tries.
So yes, we do "both know" what probably would've happened last season, had A&M not run away from the Big 12, because A&M has a long legacy of choking against Daddy Texas, even when all the odds are stacked in your favor.
Now that is only a pipe dream! Up in smoke!! Longhorn football in the last two years a mere 500 in big 12 play! What happened? They get all the texas boys but still lose? Hummm where is Ricky Bobby now???
@Jc ags Two bad years happened...and by "bad," I mean averaging 8.5 wins including two bowl wins with the youngest team in CF. Of course that's still better than the typical Aggie season in the Big 12, despite also being a huge school with all the same advantages UT has.
Of course, we'll miss beating up on A&M - I'm sure Mack Brown does, since he had a 10-4 record against you guys.
Back to the topic, Ricky should not be throwing stones with his troubled past. Johnny's off season joyride has pissed off a many an aggie including myself. We finally have a chance to make a run for a national title and we find ourselves in a situation of average again, believe me I lived it. We had a great start in the SEC without the Longhorns and I'm happy about it. I have no ill will towards the Longhorns because I love watching them play and hope they get a Big L.
@Jc ags Ricky never got into trouble in college - either with the law or the NCAA. He represented UT with perfect class, even returning for his Senior season when everyone knew he was ready for the NFL.
What he did after college is another story, but when it comes to Johnny Jackass, Ricky can talk all he wants.
Ricky Williams in four games vs. Texas A&M:
123 carries, 750 yards, 7 TD's, 3-1 record.
Good to see him still beating up the Aggies 15 years later. Hook Em Ricky!
No, you're stupid! Ricky should not be thrown stones with his past! Pretty simple but I guess that is to complex for you to understand. He was hooked on drugs. Here is a quote "Miami Dolphins running back Ricky Williams has violated the NFL's substance abuse policy for a fourth time and is facing a one-year suspension from the league, Denver television station KDVR reported on Sunday.
Yes, four times!!! Know the facts before you look like an idiot!
Ricky Williams talking about Johnny's history is hilarious. Ricky's addition to marihuana and him giving up the NFL only to return as an average player. He had a chance to make NFL history but that didn't happen. I hope his coaching career goes better. I am an Aggie and Johnny is not above Texas A&M or any other player and should be punished if he has violated the NCAA rules. I don't agree with the NCAA rules but all players know what they are and should follow them.
Hey Ricky you lived in a tent in the desert to "figure out who you were" for awhile remember? Or did the marihuana fry your brain too much, cuz we all know there's no side effects of that right bro?
Everyone "knew" who you were and you still got a heisman too. Jerry Garcia is sad right now Ricky, sad.
