Florida Atlantic QB wears helmet cam for spring game

Written by Kevin McGuire on .

Have you ever wondered what it is like to play quarterback in college football? We may not ever get a chance to see a true first-person point of view any time too soon in a real game, but Florida Atlantic gave us a new view during their spring game recently.

Florida Atlantic placed a Go-Pro camera on top of quarterback Melvin German III's helmet for the recent spring game. The first-person point of view from the FAU spring game is rather unique and with the popularity of these types of cameras continuing to grow it is probably safe to assume this will not be the last time we see this.

The Summer of Bro: Johnny Manziel and AJ McCarron hitting the beach this summer

Written by Kevin McGuire on .

Get ready for the Summer of Bros. Alabama quarterback AJ McCarron and Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel are planning on hanging out this summer, according to a recent conversation on Twitter.

That's right, bro. Two of the SEC's top quarterbacks, one a two-time BCS champion and the other last season's Heisman Trophy winner, will be hanging out at the beach this summer. It will surely lead to some epic Instagram memories.

Timing is right if ACC wants to go to Europe

Written by Aaron Torres on .

With the success of Notre Dame’s game in Dublin last season and previous discussions by the Pac-12 to hold games in Asia, college football is a sport that seems set to global. That is of course, if it hasn’t already.

And apparently it’s an idea that has been at the forefront of John Swofford’s mind too, a man who seems intent on bringing ACC sports as a whole- including football- across the international dateline and into Europe.

At least that’s what Swofford told CBS Sports’ Dennis Dodd in Pasadena, Calif., last week. While the rest of the conference commissioners were in town to discuss the parameters of a new college football playoff, Swofford was apparently thinking bigger, and thinking about ACC football under the lights of the Eiffel Tower.

Study suggests recruits with NFL dreams are doing it wrong

Written by Allen Kenney on .

Roger GoodellAs players paraded up to the stage at this week's NFL draft, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell rattled off the same schools that fans have grown accustomed to hearing every year – Alabama, Florida, Oklahoma, Notre Dame and the like.

These power programs bring in the best talent from the high school ranks ever year, so it makes sense that they're sending the most players to the big leagues. However, if you're an elite recruit with hopes of making it to the NFL, a new study from Emory University suggests you should pass on the bluebloods.

According to the Emory research, lower-profile programs such as Oregon State and Kentucky send an outsized number of players to the NFL relative to the number of four- and five-star recruits on their rosters. Put another way: "A player’s draft outcome may be adversely impacted by joining programs with many other highly rated recruits."

Justifying my love of the NFL Draft

Written by Tom Perry on .

chance-milliner

I struggle to explain my fascination with the NFL Draft, but I never miss it.

My dad and I used to pick the first round and compare when it was over. More often than not, I did better. When I was in college, my roommates were not big football fans, but they knew the TV was mine on draft day.

I’m not alone in my passion for the draft. If you tuned into the ESPN coverage on Thursday night, you saw all of those NFL fans packed in to hear names like Ezekial Ansah and Barkevious Mingo.

Former LSU defensive back Tharold Simon gets arrested in the midst of NFL Draft, just hours before "Tharold Simon Day"

Written by Aaron Torres on .

Apparently, being an NFL Draft hopeful from LSU and also getting in trouble with the law aren’t mutually exclusive things.

That’s because in the midst of an NFL Draft where one of the biggest questions remains where Tyrann Mathieu will be selected after a slew of failed drug tests and an October arrest, another former Bayou Bengal was in the news and in the police blotter on Thursday night.

That man is Tharold Simon, who saw his stock rapidly rise last fall, ironically, thanks in large part to Mathieu’s removal from the team. With Mathieu’s suspension and Morris Claiborne’s departure to the pros, it allowed Simon to move from a role as a nickel cornerback into the starting lineup, where he led LSU with four interceptions in 2012.

Good times! Well, until Thursday night anyway, when just hours before Simon was set to get drafted, the Eunice, LA native was arrested Thursday night for allegedly threatening a police officer.

College Football Playoff get's it right in return to New Year's bowl game emphasis

Written by Andrew Coppens on .

Drip... Drip.... Drip, no that's not the leaky faucet in the non-existent CBR break room. That sound you are hearing is the slow leak of information coming out of the College Football Playoff powers that be. The latest of which is the announcement of the rotation and dates for the semi-final hosts and remaining bowl games.

For fans this is perhaps the best piece of news to come out so far this week as the semi-finals and bowl games, tentatively being called the lame (but working title) "New Year's Bowls", will all revolve around the one time of year everyone's attention turns to college football - New Years Day.

According to Jeremy Fowler's article the semi-final's will be part of a back-to-back-to-back triple header on both New Year's Eve and New Year's Day.

Meeting of the Minds: Who should be on the playoff selection committee?

Written by The Crystal Ball Run Staff on .

Beano Cook

Beano Cook would've been a shoe-in for the selection committee - RIP.

OK, so we know what the new college football playoff is going to be called. (Do we have to capitalize that from now on?) We know what its logo might look like. We know where it will be held. We know who's going to televise it.

The only thing we don't really know is who will get the honor of disappointing the public – and potentially incurring the next Harvey Updyke's wrath – with their selections for the participants.

It sounds as though the people in charge have narrowed it down to two potential approaches. One way would be to turn the selections over to a panel of experts, such as former players and coaches. Another route would be leaving the picks in the hands of current administrators, such as conference commissioners and athletic directors, much like the process for March Madness.

Controversy already for new College Football Playoff?

Written by Andrew Coppens on .

cfbp_compass_200.png

Yesterday the less than inspired news of the new college football playoff name... you know, "College Football Playoff" was announced and then it was followed by a website launch and the introduction of a fan vote for the logo of the new College Football Playoff. While there wasn't much controversy in playing it safe with the name or the logos up for vote, it's taken less than 24 hours for controversy to strike.

That's right, someone actually has taken the time and the care to put together a hack and vote for the 4th option (the compass looking one). It's already given way to the conspiracy theory world too:
