yes i know it`s way too early but the cabin fever has made me weak. since cbs is free and league winners are eligible for a $10,000 drawing , i jumped into a public 10 team 5x5 league just to see what`s what. as usual in such a league , there were a few no shows at the draft but what the hey? following the advice of cbs` scott white , i passed on pitching early in order to assemble a powerhouse roster of hitters. this approach left me with the following pitching staff - Gallardo(9th round), Kershaw(11) , Billingsley(12), Scherzer(16), Garza(17), Brett Anderson(18!), JO Sanchez(25),and Neftali Feliz(29). i`m worried about WHIP in particular here so if necessary i could dangle Adam Dunn to a HR hungry owner in order to snag a #1 SP . What do you think ?

Honestly I would make sure I have 3/4 of my offense picked AND at least 3 closers before going after starters this season, but I have always been a pick 5-6 closers and stream starters kinda guy, it works for me, but honestly you really can hold off on starters till round 15 and still walk away with an incredibly solid staff

would you drop any of the above pitchers for either ryan dempster or francisco liriano ?

I'd probably cut Sanchez for Liriano. WAY more upside.

It will be interesting to see if Feliz locks down a rotation spot in spring. If he doesn't he'll go back to middle relief most likely and then I'd swap him for Dempster.

With all the question marks you potentially have in this rotation it would be nice to have at least one guy who you know what you'll get from him. Dempster went back to his gopher ball ways last year but still turned in a solid season.

Of the guys Spike drafted, more are going to hit than miss. I like this staff, regardless of what he does with the bottom two.

thank you guys for your advice. since this is a weekly transaction league where extra pitchers have a better chance to break the active roster due to double starts or matchup considerations, i decided to drop my #4 hitter from the bench for liriano and filed a waiver claim to drop sanchez for dempster. the way the league settings are i`ll probably have 6SP and 3 closers active most of the time.

didn`t get dempster but i`m not crying . odds are decent that at least one of liriano , sanchez , or feliz will be #6 SP worthy

by the way , the hitters i got in this absurdly easy 10 team draft were vmart , yad molina , agon, jose lopez, arod, tulo, assdribble,kung fu panda, kemp, crawford , lind, dunn, rios , cargo, chris davis, alciedes escobar, and heyward. if i don`t win the championship it`ll have to be the pitchers` fault

Just did a mock on mdc 10 team 28 round (6 bench) 10th pick, your thoughts... for the record I went to auto in the 24th round or else I would of had polanco instead of baker as my mi spot

I am really starting to think that I need to stop doing these mocks because I feel I am focusing too much on getting certain players because I think they will do well as opposed to putting together the best overall team

solid team. blend of power and speed. batting average will be good but not great. in drafting, if same tier players are up, i always take the one i like. just don`t overpay if you don`t have to. mocks are good for learning how long you can safely wait before pulling the trigger on adam jones , for instance
