Happy Holidays! NHL cancels games through Dec. 30th

Written by David Rogers on .

Happy Holidays, NHL fans! What better way to celebrate the Holiday season than by watching two greedy groups of people squabble over how to reach common ground over our favorite sport?

Darren Dreger announced through Twitter that the NHL will cancel all games through December 30th, officially making Gary Bettman our Scrooge and Donald Fehr our Grinch of the 2012 Holiday season.

The NHL canceling another chunk of games barely qualifies as news these days. In fact, at this stage it was almost a certainty that more games would be cut as the last round of cancelations only lasted through the 14th of December.

The optimist might believe that considering the two sides aren't too far off from a deal that we might be enjoying hockey on New Year's Day. The pessimist (perhaps the realist) will use today's cancelations and the various quotes from the two sides as further proof that 2012-13 is likely doomed.

It can be assumed that this might be the final warning given by the NHL. It's believed that if there still isn't a deal in place as we approach December 30th, the NHL will deem that 2012-13 is a lost cause. In summary, it's now or never for the NHL and the NHLPA to put their differences aside to save what's left of the current season.

I'm sticking with doomed, and have been for a while now.  It is obvious after repeated attempts that letting Bettman and Fehr anywhere near these negotiations is pure poison.
