Teemu Selanne will "Probably" retire if lockout cancels season
This is not the news that you want to see on a Friday: SB Nation's blog Anaheim Calling caught Teemu Selanne's recent interview with TSN, in which they ask if he would retire if the lockout caused the entire season to be canceled.
His response? "Probably."
What an absolutely heartbreaking end to one of the greatest careers in hockey history. Since breaking into the NHL with the Winnipeg Jets in the 1992-1993 season, Selanne has been one of the most consistently excellent players in the league. His record-setting rookie year total of 76 goals, 56 assists, and 132 points practically guarantees him a place in the Hockey Hall Of Fame (hopefully without an accompanying Gary Bettman speech).
Selanne has spent 13 seasons with the Ducks after being traded from the Jets in 1996. Those years with the Ducks bookend three seasons with the Sharks and one with the Colorado Avalanche.
Our own David Rogers highlighted Selanne as one of the players most likely to retire if the lockout laid the entire season to waste. Sadly, it looks like David's prediction will come true. What a terrible thing for Ducks fans to be deprived of the chance to say goodbye to their franchise's greatest player.

Certainly sad, but highly predictable. Beyond that, I expect that Selanne wouldn't end up being the only star we would have to say goodbye to if the lockout runs the balance of this season. Of course, in the wake of the NHL's suggestion that CBA talks go on break for half a month, this is looking more and more probable by the minute.
