A coaching tradition: Jeff Bzdelik gets his anti-fan page

Jeff Bzdelik's career at Wake Forest hasn't exactly struck fear into the other colleges in North Carolina. He won one ACC game in his first season, four last year, and is sitting at 3-6 after getting blown out at Maryland on Saturday.

Still, his teams have improved each season. They were No. 251 in the Pomeroy's in year one, 210 in year two, and are at 149 this year. But for a program which went to the NCAA Tournament seven times in the decade prior to his arrival, improving from an awful team to an average team isn't the trajectory fans are interested in.

This is a tricky program to get a read on. Ever since Skip Prosser's tragic death, Wake Forest – from a distance – has seemed rudderless. Long-time Prosser protige Dino Gaudio took over after Prosser's death, and after a struggle in his first season he led Wake to back-to-back Tourney appearances. But he was let go, and the Demon Deacons hired Bzdelik, who was running a midling Colorado program.

Now his three seasons at Wake Forest have resembled his three seasons at Colorado.

I'm not sure if there was a "Fire Jeff Bzdelik" website when he was at Colorado, but he has one now. And the statistics there are enlightening. I won't list them here – you can go to their page for the information – but it hits the major themes which have pushed the Wake fans to the edge. It's not just the losses. It's the losses combined with a program that has become a very popular place for players to leave, and this has been complicated by Bzdelik's awful public relations ability.

Who knows if Wake will actually terminate Bzdelik after this season, but it's becoming more and more clear that the fans want the school to make a move.
