Refs block Iowa State's upset of Kansas

Written by Michael Rogner on .

Kansas fans will tell you that the calls went the other way for the first 38 minutes, but what fan doesn't think their team got screwed in a college basketball game? Yes, there were some bad calls early, but it didn't seem unfair to me and I have no horse in this race.

But late in the game there were three questionable calls (four if you count the phantom call on Kevin Young which saved Jeff Withey from fouling out) and all went against Iowa State. It culminated with this play. Kansas was down two and had 11 ticks left on the clock. Elijah Johnson committed what was obviously a charge, and there was no call.

To compound the matter, the rebound was tipped to Johnson whose hand was out of bounds, but nothing was called. Instead, when he tried to pass it, Iowa State was called for a grab and Kansas tied the game at the line.

Kansas would go on to win in overtime 108-96.
