Chris Walker Debuts For Florida TOnight

The Chris Walker saga is finally coming to an end. When he announced in July that he would attend Florida, rumors already abounded that he would perhaps not be eligible right away due to some academic concerns. True enough, Walker did not qualify academically and had to sit out the first semester. Finally, he was cleared last week and now is set to make his debut for the Gators when they take on Missouri tonight.

So what does Florida have in this talented Freshman?

Walker is a 6'9" Freshman who reportedly has an over 7' wingspan, which is going to allow him to play the 4 or 5 for Florida. He will probably make his biggest impact this year for Florida on the defensive end, as his explosiveness should let him get out and defend on the perimeter, but also he has the size, length, and leaping ability to be a good rim challenger. Offensively, Walker has never shown much of a polished game. He succeeds best by attacking the offensive glass and scoring off put backs or dump offs. This handicap will only be exacerbated by his lack of practice and game time. I don't really see him fitting in Florida's lineup too well offensively, but with the Gators currently 7th in the SEC in offensive rebounding, he'll bring some help there.
