January 27 Rebound

The Rebound is a feature where we recap the action of that day and make note of the statistical leaders. It's rather simple. Let's get it started.

(17) Duke 80 (18) Pittsburgh 65

The Panthers had no answer for the Duke 3 point attack. The Blue Devils hit 13 of 25 from long range. Andre Dawkins drilled 6 of 7 as part of a 20 point effort. On the inside, Jabari Parker went just 7 of 19, but hit 5 of 7 from the line for 21 points. He had 11 rebounds. Amile Jefferson also had a double double with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Lamar Patterson had 14 for the Panthers, but on just 4 of 14 shooting.

(23) Oklahoma 88 (8) Oklahoma State 76

The Sooners used the foul line to their advantage as they made 30 free throws, 8 more than Oklahoma State attempted, in 42 attempts in their big win over the Cowboys. Jordan Woodard had 18 points on 3 of 4 from 3 and 9 of 13 from the line. He hit a big 3 when OSU cut a 16 point second half lead to 7. Ryan Spangler dominated inside with 15 points and 17 rebounds. Tyler Neal also chipped in 15 on 5 of 6, 3-3 from 3, 2-3 from the line, shooting. Okie State threw up a lot of threes, Marcus Smart had 11 attempts. Phil Forte went 6-6 from 3 as part of a 20 point effort. Smart had 22 on 6 of 18 shooting and Markel Brown had 18 on 7 of 17 shooting, 0-5 from 3.

(9) Villanova 65 Georgetown 60

The Wildcats faced some offensive struggles in this one. They had a 5 minute stretch in the second half without a field goal, which saw them fall behind by a point. They were able to get to the line 28 times, hitting 22, and kept Georgetown off with only 9 attempts. The Hoyas went just 6 of 20 from distance and turned the ball over 18 times, including late in the game down by 3. Nova was able to ice the game at the line. James Bell led Nova with 16, JayVaughn Pinkston (7 rebounds) and Daniel Ochefu added 12. Markel Starks scored a game high 20 for the Hoyas on 7 of 15 shooting.

NC Central sits alone in first place at 5-1 in the league with their big win. Norfolk St is alone in second at 6-2 following the win over Savannah State, who is now in a 5-2 tie with Hampton. Morgan State fell to 4-2 in the race.
