Red Sox players skip Pesky's funeral
Only four Boston Red Sox players on the current roster attended legendary Sox player and coach Johnny Pesky's funeral on Monday. Those four were David Ortiz, Clay Buchholz, Vicente Padilla, and Jarrod Saltalamacchia. Even more appalling is that the Sox front office chartered buses for players (as well as front office staff) to attend the funeral, and the team had a day off on Monday...and yet, only those four players made the trip. However, former players such as Nomar Garciaparra (who was apparently extremely emotional during the ceremony) made the trip for the legend's farewell.
I can understand that a lot of the members of the Red Sox are new to the club, but when only Ortiz and Buchholz show up among your big names...that's a problem. No Josh Beckett, Adrian Gonzalez, Jacoby Ellsbury, Dustin Pedroia, Jon Lester...it's an embarrassment to the franchise. In contrast, nearly the entire team was at Beckett's Beckett Bowl event that night.
If you want proof that this current Red Sox team needs to be blown up, look no further than this news. Pesky was an absolute legend in Red Sox history, and was a fixture at the ballpark. If you can't be bothered to show up for a funeral for him, you pretty much have no deep ties to the organization...and for a market like Boston, thath could be a death knell. This is cleary not the Jason Varitek/Tim Wakefield Red Sox anymore.

Yea,,,,,I saw him play.....great player,,,team member, and team coach.....Yes it does show the Red Sox disgrunted attitude. This team does need a shakeup....from management on down.....Sadly it could take about 3 years to straighten it out....We lost one really good manager because of some dumb moves by overrated and overpaid players. excuses need to be eraticated....lets get it on....move forward....LEADERSHIP.....Do not embarras the New England area....Pesky was a pride for the Boston Red Sox and will always be .
Pathetic group. Beckett and Lester were drinking beer and Dustin we hardly knew ya.....What a phony you are. You got the Beckett bug and now you are as useless as all of them....How's that 276 average going...Down I hope. Was a Red Sox fan. Admired the team for a long time. Now totally emabarrassed. To not show up to a "legend's" funeral you should all be ashamed of yourselves. Keep collecting those checks boys and the next one you cash think of Johnny.......

This is truly a classless baseball team. I'd get rid of most of the players starting with the chicken shit beer guzzling Beckett followed by a cast of others! They're dispicable. They couldn't attend the funeral of a Red Sox legend because they got in late from New York? Good grief it's just one friggin' day out of your miserable lives! I'm done being a fan of this %$^*!^@ team!
