Josh Hamilton signs five-year deal with Angels

Written by Joe Lucia on .

Well, that escalated quickly. Josh Hamilton has agreed to a five-year contract with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, just an hour after their initial interest was reported. The money on the deal is $25 million per season, for a total of $125 million over the life of the contract.

As I mentioned earlier today, Hamilton's signing with the Angels will necessitate another move from them. They now have Hamilton, Peter Bourjos, Mark Trumbo, and Kendrys Morales to fill three positions (both corner outfield spots and DH), and they could easily trade one of the three younger players for starting pitching help that they desperately need, considering their rotation is relatively weak past Jered Weaver and CJ Wilson.

Hamilton's signing with the Angels means that the Rangers have missed on yet another one of their offseason targets, and will now need to scramble for starting pitching and outfield help. One has to think that Texas is going to look at Nick Swisher and Michael Bourn for their outfield, and potentially Anibal Sanchez for rotation help. The Rangers could even get into a duel with the Angels once again when it comes to starting pitching, possibly getting into a conversation with the Mets about RA Dickey. Things are about to get interesting with Hamilton switching AL West teams/
