Carlton Fisk got a DUI in a corn field

Written by Joe Lucia on .

In today's crazy story of the day, former Red Sox and White Sox catcher (and Baseball Hall of Famer) Carlton Fisk was arrested and charged with DUI last night...after being found sleeping in his car in an Illinois corn field with an open bottle of vodka in his truck with him. Fisk's truck had a flat tire.

So many questions arise from a situation like this. Why was Fisk drunk at 7:30 PM, which is when the police arrived at the scene? How did his truck get into the corn field? Was he drinking the vodka *while* driving, or did he drink it and then go for a drive? Why didn't he call a cab if he was at a bar before hopping into his truck?

On a serious note, it's sad to see people continually undervalue just how serious a DUI is, and how dire the consequences could have been. While Fisk is alive and well, he could have been killed. While Fisk isn't an active player, there has been a huge jump in the amount of reported DUIs among baseball players and other athletes in recent years, and it's really something that the leagues need to crack down on, especially in baseball.
