Werth's walkoff homer sends NLDS to game five

Written by Joe Lucia on .

In Thursday's NLDS game four, the Cardinals and Nationals both struggled terribly on offense, combining for just two runs and five hits going into the bottom of the ninth. Jayson Werth led off the inning for Washington against Lance Lynn of the Cardinals, and battled Lynn for the first 12 pitches, fouling off seven pitches after starting out the at bat in an 0-2 hole. On the 13th pitch he saw, Werth hit a bullet over the left field wall into the St Louis bullpen, ensuring that if the defending World Champions want to move on in the playoffs, they're going to need to win two out of three in Washington.
