Alfredo Aceves is irritating the Red Sox...again
Boston Red Sox reliever Alfredo Aceves is at it again. This time, Aceves starting lobbing pitches to the plate during batting practice instead of pitching the ball normally. Red Sox manager John Farrell wasn't pleased when talking about the situation afterwards.
"The one thing I'll say about that is that he didn't go through the drill as intended and we've addressed it," said Farrell.
The manager didn't elaborate much more to follow-up questions.
"As I said, his session on the mound didn't go as intended. So he's healthy and it's been addressed," said Farrell.
That doesn't sound good for Aceves' potential future in Boston. He served as Boston's primary closer during the first two-thirds of last season, his second with the club, after Andrew Bailey dealt with injury problems for most of the season. But Aceves was suspended for three games in August after an altercation with former manager Bobby Valentine, and seemed to shut himself down after that, posting an 8.42 ERA in the final two months of the 2012 season.
With Bailey healthy (for now, at least), and newly-acquired Joel Hanrahan and Koji Uehara in the fold, Aceves could find himself out of a job if he continues to be a headache for the Red Sox staff. Aceves is making $2.65 million this season, and has one season of arbitration left before becoming a free agent after the 2014 season.
