5 Week 1 Games Through Rock N Roll

Written by Daniel Eliesen on .

Texans 34 Colts 7 Miss You by The Rolling Stones

Most Colts fans were probably hoping the song selected would be U2’s With or Without You, but as the famous football saying goes “No Peyton No W”

It has long been thought that the Colts were a below average team take away Manning, and, well they wasted no time showing that’s exactly what they are in their week 1 divisional match up against the Texans.

The Colts always had a lacklustre defence but it appeared that without the Sheriff #18 in the line-up the whole team didn’t have the heart or desire to give it their all. The offensive line was a mess, the running game was a mess and that “defence” failed to show any signs of life. Reggie Wayne the classy veteran receiver appeared to be the only Colt who was ready to play some football.

It’s not really fair to dish out all the blame on QB Kerry Collins because lets face it he is older then most peoples grandmothers reading this article but with Collins throwing the rock it would appear you can add the Colts to the Andrew Luck Sweepstakes. #SUCKFORLUCK

Be afraid Colts fans, be very afraid. Not to make matters worse but Owner Jim Irsay said Sunday that Peyton Manning (neck) surgery could be out anywhere from 2-to-6 months. Best guess is that Manning won’t take a snap this year.

Jets 27 Cowboys 24 I Won’t Back Down by Tom Petty

No matter what the circumstances are Jets somehow find a way to win. Last night during the game the
Al Michaels said that while the average  percentage for fumble recoveries is probably around 50%, the Jets recover around 70% of their fumbles. It seems like whenever the Jets need a break, Rex Ryan’s team seems to get them.

Last night it seemed that Dallas was all but in control of the game and ready to walk away with a W from the Meadowlands, then Tony Romo decided to put on his J-E-T-S jersey.

Romo made a bonehead decision to run the ball near the goal line and coughed up the ball to the hungry Jets defence. At that point of the game it seemed that the game was all but over but yet again the Jets caught a lucky break.

Romo then threw a 4rth quarter interception to Darrell Revis, all but lining up Nick Folk’s game winning field goal.

You need to be lucky to be good, and the Jets seem to be one of the luckiest teams in the league. It’s not how you get the W’s that is important, its getting them. The Jets would appear to be right on track to a similar year to last.

Ravens 35 Steelers 7 Hit me with your best shot by Pat Benatar

“Hit me with you best shot, Fire Away! “

Going into Week 1, Joe Flacco had never beaten Big Ben, the whole Ravens team played poised and like they had something to prove. Both the offence and defence came out firing on all cylinders. Ray Rice took over the Steelers defence which didn’t quite seem up to par with a banged up James Harrison.

The Ravens took a page from the Patriots book (who have always had success against the Steelers) lining up with two young talented TE’s. The Steelers D couldn’t seem to figure out Cam Cameron’s defence and it didn’t help them that every time Big Ben had the ball he seemed focused on turning it right back over.

Ed Reed returned to true ball hawking form picking up Big Ben twice. The Ravens are sick and tired of being pushed around by the Steelers and they certainly left their mark in week 1.

Cardinals 28 Panthers 21 Electric Youth by Debbie Gibson

Ok, so I kind of cheated here because Debbie Gibson is more pop then rock and to be honest with you I have never even heard of this song, that being said however this song title is a perfect way of explaining Cam Newton’s week 1 performance.

Newton exploded on the scene, with an electric week 1 performance collecting 422 yards (the most of any QB in week 1) and 2 touchdowns adding one more on the ground.

The name Cam Newton comes with all of controversies but he put his team-mates and a lot of his haters on his back making an early impression.

Steve Smith who also had an unbelievable performance said of his QB “Cam is very disappointed,” wide receiver Steve Smith said. “I’m encouraged by that.”

He has a long way to go but Newton certainly got off to a great start.

Redskins 28 Giants 14 I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For by U2

Sexy Rexy had one of the best games of his career making some key pin point passes that helped the Redskins take down the Giants. The Giants issues came out pretty plat offensively and this loss will have to sting.

Eli Manning and the Giants offence struggled all preseason and that continued in Week 1. With all of New York's injuries on defense it’s going to be critical for Manning to be on the top of his game.

The NFC East has a lot of question marks at the moment, but the Dream Team Eagles do seem to be the team to beat.
