Comedian Rob Riggle takes over Frank Caliendo’s place on FOX’s pregame show

Earlier this month, Frank Caliendo announced that he had left FOX. The news went largely unnoticed, but for those of us that loved his witty pregame picks (usually accompanied by a priceless impersonation), the move left a gaping hole in FOX's pregame coverage.

That gap has now been filled, at least in some capacity. FOX announced at halftime of this evening's Broncos, 49ers game that comedian Rob Riggle would be filling the position of expert comedian on the network's pregame show.

Riggle isn't new to sports. He hosted this year's ESPY Awards back in June (see video above). He's also appeared on such hysterical shows as "The Daily Show" and "Saturday Night Live."

While the departure of Caliendo is depressing to those of us that appreciate the comic side of sports, FOX could have done far worse than Rob Riggle. The man is hilarious.

Riggle's first segment will come on the opening Sunday of the NFL season, September 9th.
