Peterson, Manning and Brady lead heated NFL MVP race

Written by Daniel Eliesen on .

Adrian Peterson, Minnesota VikingsThis week playoff races usually start to sort themselves out as teams are able to establish themselves late in the season. This season is a little different as this Sunday only made the playoff picture even cloudier. Dallas, Washington, Minnesota, and Seattle all helped their cause while the Giants, Steelers and Bears put themselves in very intriguing positions.

The race for MVP, like the playoff race, is a very compelling one. In past years we have seen a couple of stud players run away with the year’s biggest individual award. However, this year it has be a very interesting three-player race.  Adrian PetersonPeyton Manning and Tom Brady all make compelling arguments for this year’s MVP award. Aaron Rodgers has perhaps snuck into the conversation but, at this point, would be a long shot.

This week Adrian Peterson ran wild for 212 yards making 2000 yards a very attainable goal. Peterson has put a team with essentially no passing game on his back and has his squad in a playoff position. Peterson not only is dragging a team that lacks an elite QB but also is doing this without the team’s second best player Percy Harvin.

Peterson’s has reclaimed his title as the league’s best running back and has only seemed stronger after missing last season. Peterson most likely is the front runner at this point for MVP. However, if the Vikings fall short of the playoffs there are many that might sway to Peyton Manning.

Peyton Manning, Denver Broncos
Peyton Manning this weekend led his team to a 9th straight victory
and has his team at 2nd seed in the AFC. Denver controls its own fate in terms of the seeding. Manning clearly hasn’t lost a step despite many suggesting he would in the off season. Peyton Manning has simply been doing what Peyton Manning does this season. It would not be surprising at all if he added another MVP trophy in his trophy case this year.

Tom Brady New England Patriots
Tom Brady had made up a lot of ground
in recent weeks as he has been nothing short of terrific. This week the Patriots lost control over the 2nd seed however losing in an entertaining shootout against the 49ers.  While Brady’s stats are very impressive, most tend to think that Manning has him beat in the MVP race considering he is coming off a major injury and the Bronco’s could finish the higher seed.

With two weeks to go however, the MVP race is very much up for grabs.

Notice the Infatuational bias for Peyton? How could Brady make up a lot of ground when he was ahead by miles. Until Brady had the two INTs against the 49ers, his TD/turnover Ratio was 8.25 to Manning 2.5. The press tweaks the stats for Manning by not counting Brady's four rushing TDs and omits Manning's two fumbles. Gee aren't they fair!!! QBs don't play defense except passively by limiting turnovers. They can only act to score points. In both categories Brady is not just beating Manning, but is CRUSHING him. Manning has twice as many turnovers as Brady 12 to 6. Manning has as scored 100 points less than Brady. It is easy to see why TDs/Turnover Ratio is THE stat. It was the reason the press praised Aaron Rodgers last year like a football god, and te reason why Brady is the only QB, ever to have 100 more wins than losses. If only Brady had Manning's defense, So in the two areas that a QB can be judged in, Brady has utterly destroyed Manning, yet the press says Brady is making up ground. What an incestuous relationship the press has with Manning. MVP should be based on performance not cronyism like Government.

Funny you mention the 2nd seed in the playoffs. Not once in this entire season has it been mentioned before when Brady and the Pats had the second seed position. It is abundantly clear that the media has an incestuous relationship with Peyton, even admitting that Brady's stats are better yet Manning makes the better story because of whatever they can reason gets Manning the award. Why can't we have an honest media for a change. Just admit that Brady has more yards by 260. More TDs at 34 to 31 (media only counts rushing TDs when Manning has more than Brady). And the biggy, Manning has 12 turnovers to Brady's 6 (media only reports Manning's INTs as turnovers (10), overlooking his fumbles unless Brady has more). The statistical chance of having a season like Brady's, utilizing all games played since 1970 is rare (97.8 percentile) while the chance of having a year like Mannings is not so rare at (74.6 percentile). Manning best stat is his completion percentage where he is 4% ahead of Brady (67 to 63) while Brady's best stat is his TD to turnover ratio where he is 119.77% better than Manning (34/6=5.67 vs 31/12=2.58). Add in Brady has better stats across the board as given by even those voting or Manning (Brady has more yards, more TDs, more points scored by over 100 and is approaching the NFL record for points scored in a season, less turnovers, less of a defense...even when he scores 34 points against the leagues best defense like last night the loss is on the defense (Denver has a top ten defense while Pats are at he bottom)). Then there is the glaring fact that Brady beat Manning head to head, beating a top ten defense while Manning lost to the league's worst. At the barber shop one guy mentioned that the media is jealous of Brady and wish they could "get" with him and by voting for Manning, this is the only way they can stick it up his &?@$&?! Come on man! Give credit where credit is due. Don't be like the press in 1941 when Ted Williams won the triple crown, batted .406 and didn't get the MVP because the media didn't like him as much as Joe DiMaggio. Manning may deserve the come back player of the year award but will have to battle it out with Adrian Peterson for that, but MVP should be based on the facts not being the feel good story of the year. To the media, be a man, buck up or forever be known as the &!?$@! You are becoming. Note that the press says Brady as made up a lot of ground...that is media speak for not recognizing that Brady had a lead like Usain Bolt in a short race. Before last nights debacle by the defense and Hernandez flinching with the ball in his hands, Brady had a TD/Turnover Ratio lead of not 119.77% but 230%. That's how big a lead Brady has over Manning but the press's infatuation with the Manning story detracts from Brady's accomplishments and a truly remarkably season. Grandma says shame on you. You should know better.
