This past week, the Baltimore Ravens decided it was time to part ways with offensive coordinator Cam Cameron, installing Jim Caldwell as the interim coordinator. The results on Sunday were less than impressive.
To be fair to the Ravens, the Broncos are one of the hottest teams in football, and Peyton Manning has been there, done that. Still, it was shocking to check up on the game in the second quarter and see the Broncos up 31 to 3.
The Ravens never recovered, and today's poor performance will have many questioning the logic behind firing your offensive coordinator so late in the season. That criticism, by the way, is well deserved.
The most immediate problem the Ravens have is that their playcaller didn't design this offense. Just a season ago, Jim Caldwell was the head coach of the Indianapolis Colts. Now, he's trying to run an offense designed by a now unemployed coach.
The move to fire Cameron was possibly the most shocking personnel move of the season. Yes, the Ravens have struggled on offense at times this season, but you just don't fire your offensive coordinator right before the playoffs begin, especially when you're leading your division.
Peyton Manning and the Broncos embarrassed the Ravens today, but if the Ravens don't shape up quickly, they'll be embarrassed in the playoffs too.
