For the second time in five days, the Texans' defense underperformed against a less-than-quality opponent, and for the second time, their offense bailed them out.
The Texans gave up 31 points to a Lions unit that has been hit or miss for much of the 2012 season. It took a late touchdown and a considerable amount of luck for the Texans to pull out the win.
The Texans' defensive unit struggled last Sunday against the Jaguars, giving up 37 points to a team that had scored only as much as 23 points in any game before Sunday's matchup.
The excuse last weekend was that the Jaguars ran more combination routes than the Texans had anticipated as well as throwing the ball downfield more than expected.
The Texans shouldn't stress too much about their defense. There's cracks present, but the Lions played a good game, and when the Lions are on, they're one of the toughest offenses in the league to slow down. That being said, teams will be looking long and hard at the Houston's last two performances for ways to beat their defense.
As I said, these are cracks in the foundation, but they aren't necessarily fatal flaws. The Texans are struggling on defense, but they're still winning, and that's all that matters at the end of the day.
