Rex Ryan ramps up rhetoric in preparation for the Jets’ game against the Patriots

The Jets have been in a funk dating back to last year, but there seems to be a ray of hope. The old Rex Ryan may be coming back.

Ryan told NYDailyNews.com, "I just think that I want them to know… and they know that I think we’re going to beat them, I recognize that they’re a great football team and Belichick’s a great coach. I’ve never once said that he wasn’t. But again, we’re not going to back down or concede anything."

It's no surprise that Ryan would pick the week leading up to a game against the Patriots to bring back some of his famous rhetoric. The Patriots have been the thorn in the side of the rest of the AFC East for the better part of the last decade, and beating the Patriots has been one of Ryan's top priorities since becoming the Jets' head coach.

"We built our team up on the back end to match up with them," Ryan admitted. "So when you have Cromartie, Revis… guys like that… You draft Kyle Wilson in the first round. It’s to match up with those guys."

Even though the AFC East is currently deadlocked in a four way tie at 3-3, most consider the Patriots the favorite to pull out the division with the Jets coming in second place. A win over the Patriots would put the Jets in a rare position of power with the early tie-breaker and a one game lead over the Patriots and greatly improving their chances of pulling out the division from under the Patriots.
