The Packers head into week 6 (2-3) facing debatably the NFL’s best team in the Houston Texans. Last year the Packers only lost once in the regular season and to the shock of many 2-4 might be staring at them right in the face.
That being said let’s not right off the Packers this week just yet. Vegas currently have the Packers as 3 point underdogs against the hot Texans who will be suiting up for the first time without their star middle linebacker Brian Cushing.
That being said the Packers are also not heading into this fight healthy as Greg Jennings doesn’t appear likely to return this week and JerMichael Finely is set to be a game time decision. The news gets worse for Green Bay who are also now without Cedrick Benson for potentially the rest of the season.
The Packers will trust Alex Green the young skilled RB to fill in for Benson while also getting back James Starks from injury for the first time this season. Look for Randall Cobb to also be more involved in the offense as a player who can play many roles like a Darren Sproles or Percy Harvin.
I wouldn’t expect the Packers to exactly play desperate but I expect Aaron Rodgers to play better. Rodgers admitted this week that he hasn’t been at his best and Rodgers is one of the many perfectionists around the league who will surely strive for more from himself. While the Texans defense is dominant, I can’t see a driven Aaron Rodgers being slowed down.
The Packers defense will need to slow down the Texans run game and control the play action pass which is not exactly an easy task but the defense usually can play its best in important situations and finds a way to rush the QB.
Desperate teams, (good desperate) teams always seem to come up with the big wins when they need it most ( i.e Saints last week).
However, if I should be wrong, the Packers, at 2-4, would be in serious trouble.
