Week 1 of the season is one of the toughest for NFL players as some struggle with conditioning and getting back into the swing of the NFL. Week 1 is also maybe the toughest of the fantasy football season as we are still shady on some player’s roles in their respective offense. With that being said there is one play this week that has gone somewhat under the radar which might be able to help you get your fantasy season off to a winning start.
This week’s sleep and start of the week is Nasty Nate Washington.
Washington quietly had a very solid and productive year last season pilling up 74 receptions with 1023 yards and 7 touchdowns. Washington is currently only being started in 17 % of yahoo starting lineups this week and it wouldn’t surprise me if he finished within the top 10 WR’s this week.
Washington will benefit from a week 1 Kenny Britt suspension and the uncertainty of how rookie Kendal Wright will perform as a WR2. Washington also has a juicy matchup this week against a weak New England secondary. In addition the Patriots are sure to put up points which most likely means the Titans will have to turn to the passing game and that could lead to a big game for Washington.
Nasty Nate could go for around 5-7 catches 85 yards and a potential score. If he is available in your leagues I would go out and get him. I have Washington ranked over guys like Demarius Thomas, DeSean Jackson, Stevie Johnson, Santonio Holmes, Aquan Boldin, Reggie Wayne and Vincent Jackson.
Go get 'em if you can!
Other potential break out performances this week include:
QB Matt Schaub – Schaub gets the Dolphins this week, which is a defense he has taken advantage of in the past. He also gets a healthy Andre Johnson which isn’t something he hasn’t had the pleasure of enjoying much of late.
RB Deangelo Williams – Williams draws a pretty weak Tampa Bay defensive line in addition to extra carries due to J Stew’s lingering injuries.
RB Ronnie Brown – While I think Brown’s day has past, Brown will get the giant load of the carries week 1 with Ryan Matthews out.
