Steve Sabol, the president of NFL Films, has passed away at age 69 following a year and a half battle with brain cancer.
Sabol started at NFL Films in 1964 with his late father Ed and was an innovator in the way fans watched NFL games. NFL Films was responsible for the introduction of slow motion replays, mic'ed up players, coaches, and referees, and dramatic video packages.
I don't think there is an NFL fan today that hasn't seen an NFL Films package popularized by Sabol. It's not even as if all of the films released by the company were serious in nature, either.
Rest in peace, Mr Sabol, and thank you.
