Jaguars helping name local zoo’s baby jaguar

The Jaguars may be one of the smallest market teams in the league, and they may not sell as many tickets to their games as some of the bigger markets, but they've never been accused of being disengaged from the Jacksonville community. I present to you, exhibit A.

Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens is in the process of naming their baby jaguar. Because Jacksonville's football team is called the Jaguars, it only made sense to reach out to the fans to vote on the baby jaguar's name, although voting is not restricted to fans of the team or citizens of the city.

To vote, you simply go to the team's website, and fill out a standard form. There are five name options to choose from. "Shad" and "Khan" are references to the owner of the Jacksonville Jaguars, Shahid Khan. "Jaxson" and "Jax" are references to the city of Jacksonville as well as the team's mascot, Jaxson de Ville. Finally, "Pounce de Leon" is a reference to Spanish explorer Juan Ponce de Leon, who is most famous for hunting for the fountain of youth in Florida.

Usually football fans get the opportunity to vote on football related items, but occasionally we get to vote on gems like this. Don't miss your chance to help pick the name of a baby jaguar. After all, how often do you actually get the chance to name a jaguar cub?
