Outside of a questionable fake field goal gone bad, the Baltimore Ravens have dominated the first half of Super Bowl XLVII, leading 21-6 at halftime.
The Ravens have looked crisp on offense and extremely fast on defense while the 49ers have looked slow, sluggish and off their game. In other words, one team came ready to play, and the other apparently forgot today was game day.
Collin Kaepernick has been particularly mediocre for the 49ers, turning the ball over and throwing late and inaccurate passes. If he continues to struggle early in the second half, the 49ers have to consider making the switch to Alex Smith.
By contrast, the Ravens have been able to spread out the 49ers' defense, and it's opened up their offense significantly. Their success moving forward will be determined by their ability to continue what they're doing, as well as throwing another wrinkle into their game plan in the second half.
Adjustments:
The Ravens need to keep it up. Stay fast on defense and keep changing it up on offense. If they maintain the status quo, the Ravens are your Super Bowl champs.
The 49ers have to stop the Ravens from spreading it out on offense. If Kaepernick struggles, yank him. I know Jim Harbaugh has a lot of pride, but he has a great backup quarterback that could work the 49ers back into the game.
