Jaguars receiver Blackmon undergoes groin surgery; will miss the start of camp

Jaguars second year wide receiver Justin Blackmon could miss the start of training camp due to a groin injury that required surgery according to Ryan O'Halloran of the Florida Times-Union.

It's possible that Blackmon could be ready for the start of camp, according to the report, but it seems likely the Jaguars would play it safe and ease Blackmon back into the lineup as preseason games commence, especially because Blackmon must serve a four-game suspension to kick off the year, meaning he's not available to the team until week five of the regular season.

Blackmon was the Jaguars' most consistent receiver as a rookie, playing in all sixteen games, the only Jags receiver to do so. Blackmon accounted for 865 receiving yards and five touchdowns last season, coming out of his shell in the latter half of the year once Chad Henne took over as the Jags' starting quarterback.

If Blackmon is not ready for the start of training camp, it's expected that Mohamed Massaquoi would fill in opposite Cecil Shorts III. Massaquoi spent his first four seasons with the Browns, putting together respectable numbers, but there's no doubt he'd be a short-term fill in for Blackmon in such a scenario.
