Seahawks shooting for crowd noise record

On September 15, the Seahawks will open up their home schedule against their now-hated divisional foe, the San Francisco 49ers. There's no doubt the stadium will be rockin', but just how loud will they be? Thanks to the fan organization Volume 12, we'll know.

According to the group's Facebook page, Guinness has accepted their application to monitor the noise level at the big game. The organization will be hoping to break the world record for loudest sports crowd. The current record holders are the crowd of a Turkish soccer team which reached levels of 131.76 dbA. For reference, that is slightly above the commonly referenced threshold of pain of 130 dbA.

The Seahawks claim the stadium can reach noise levels of 112 dbA, but that's a long shot from the record. Consider, however, the Seahawks will have a few things going for them.

They'll be opening their home schedule. This is serious cause for celebration by football fans. They're playing a hated rival, and both teams are expected to make deep playoff runs. Finally, the fans will almost certainly be reminded they're going for the world record. It wouldn't be crazy to think they could at least come very close to the record.

At the very least, expect the 49ers to be prepared with silent counts to help themselves out.
