Vonta Leach, the Ravens bulldozing fullback, has been cut by the team. With a $3 million base salary, it was obvious the Ravens wouldn't want to pay a fullback that kind of money, but it continues the weakening of the roster as the exile of solid players continues.
Leach made it clear last week that he'd like to stay with the team, but efforts to re-negotiate his contract proved fruitless, and the Ravens are now out one of the top fullbacks in the game today. Rookie Kyle Juszczyk will likely take over as Ray Rice's personal blocker.
For Leach, the job market should be solid. Although he's an aging fullback, 31 years of age, and teams have generally moved away from the fullback position over the past five to ten years, there are still teams that would love to have a blocker that can open massive holes. That much hasn't changed.
It's unclear if there's much interest in Leach right now, and it's obvious he won't be making superstar money, but you can also bank on him being signed at some point this offseason. While his position is going out of style, great blockers will never go the way of the dinosaur, and that's the kind of blocker Leach is.
