Elvis Dumervil picks Baltimore over Denver

Elvis Dumervil never should have hit the free agent market, but that's exactly what happened due to a faxing error on his agent's part. Despite the mishap, the Broncos still put in an offer that would have kept Dumervil in Denver, but it seems it wasn't enough.

Mike Klis of the Denver Post reports that Dumervil has agreed to terms with the Baltimore Ravens. The news is a relief for the Ravens who have lost some of their top players on defense since the offseason began.

Dumervil gives the Ravens a great pass rusher that should soften the blow of losing their ball hawk, Ed Reed, in free agency. The rationale is that by getting more pressure on the opposing quarterback, the secondary should be given more opportunities to make plays in the secondary.

The Broncos will experience the opposite effect. The loss of Dumervil means that they will be forced to go hunting for pass rusher. Klis indicates that John Abraham may be a target, with Dwight Freeney being another possible option.

In six seasons with the Broncos, Dumervil contributed 63.5 sacks and 16 forced fumbles to Denver's defense. That level of production should transfer well to the Ravens who are likely just happy to be adding a piece to their roster instead of losing another key player.
