Titus Young provides a unique case study

Titus Young was once a promising young NFL receiver with a high powered offense. With the Lions, it seemed that young would flourish, especially with Calvin Johnson demanding so much of the opposing defense's attention, but the opposite has happened. Titus Young seems to have gone through nothing short of a total meltdown, and his story may become an important case study for the NFL and the NFLPA.

In court on Friday, Young and the judge had a rather unique exchange, which included nothing from Titus Young. According to the USA Today, that exchange went something like this.

"Good morning, sir."

No reply.

"Can you hear me?"

No reply.

"Are you Titus Demetrius Young?"

No reply.

It's unclear what has happened to Titus Young that has pushed him off the proverbial deep end, and it's likely we won't know for some time, if ever. This is a case that the NFL world should be watching and considering carefully. The outstanding questions for the league are, is Titus Young trying to cope with something football related? What is causing this type of behavior? And, most importantly, is there anything the NFL can be doing to prevent this type of problem in the future.
