Peyton Manning was supposed to get Super Bowl No. 2 this year, but the Seattle Seahawks stomped all over that in emphatic fashion Sunday in New Jersey. Now, Manning and the Broncos enter 2014 as favorites to once again win the AFC, so nobody is ruling out another Super Bowl shot.
What are the odds Manning gets back to the big game and actually wins it for the first time since 2006?
Well, history isn't exactly on his side. John Elway is the only quarterback ever to play in -- and win -- the Super Bowl beyond his 38th birthday. He did that before retiring in 1998. But because of when Manning's birthday falls, he'd actually be a couple months older than Elway if the Broncos were to play in next year's game in Glendale, Ariz.
In other words, Manning would have to become the oldest quarterback ever to win a Super Bowl. Not only that, but he'd become the oldest position player ever to win the game. He'd also be the first quarterback to win it in or beyond his 17th season, something only Ray Lewis has done in the non-quarterback category.
Guys like Elway, Brett Favre, Kurt Warner and Warren Moon have had plenty of late-thirties success, but Manning would have to be an anomaly.
But if somebody's going to defy the odds, it's Peyton Manning. Sure, he might lose Eric Decker. But the defense will have Von MIller and Chris Harris back, and he'll have franchise left tackle Ryan Clady back on his blind side. This team should still be dominant.
So don't be surprised if the Broncos get back to the big game again in 2014. And if that happens and they can win, don't be surprised if Manning walks away making history, just as Elway did at the same age.
But if they fall short again, we'll likely be talking next year at this time about Manning's chances of winning as a 39-year-old.
Manning is the worst QB in history of NFL. He has lots of ass kissers. He only wins because he plays crappy teams.
Peyton Manning will be back in the superbowl, he is one of the greatest quarterbacks of this time as well as brady with the greatest of all time Joe Montana The reason why he had such a hard time at this superbowl is because he had to go to hand signals because of the noise and the seahawks knew all the signals
Peyton Manning is and will always be a great quarterback ....you people that bash him are obviously jealous of him because of his fame...sorry about your luck...yep they got beat in the Super Bowl game..but you have to ask yourself ...damn what happened !!!! Well if someone however knew every play you were doing wouldn't you think your ass would get beat...so who was spying ...It has been said that Sherman on Seattles team knew every play that Peyton threw out there... so what the heck!!!!!!!!!!! But the great person that Peyton is he went after the game to find Sherman to see if he was doing ok after his injury and not only that he also Congratulated him on the win.. So see Peyton is a great person and a #1 Quarterback in my book. I will proudly wear my #18 Manning shirts from Broncos and Colts ..
as i said peyton manning is overrated.tim tebow would have done better in that super bowl.he can throw the the ball on a wire he can run over people power. he can escape. he can do more things the manning can dream of..it would have gave denver a much better chance.and brady bradshaw montana are the greatest quartebacks to ever play the game.
tom brady should never be consider the greatest qb of all time its montana then aikman.. bradshaw as 4 but also more ints then tds.. its hard to even make it to the sb so to win it is a big deal. I know brady has 3 and could have lost all 5 but a clutch kicker saved him. just ask the bills how important that is...
The only way Manning returns to the Super Bowl is if he buys a ticket. He is done. He could put up some big numbers in the regular season next year but watching him in the Super Bowl was almost painful, and I was cheering against the Broncos! The team quit. And with Manning supposed to being a leader, he quit too. His body language on the sidelines said it all. And the Broncos coaching staff?!!! They were totally clueless about making adjustments and slowing down Seattle's pass rush. And Seattle had told everyone all week what they planned to do-put pressure on Manning. Elway mortgaged the Broncos future to win the Super Bowl by signing Manning and after two years it still hasn't happened and it isn't going to. And as a Chiefs fan, I love it!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Manning going to the super bowl again ?? Tebow would have done a much better job leading the Broncos and he knows it but his massive ego took a huge blow - the ego maniac should just plain retire already - he in no way is football
PEYTON IS THE NEXT BEST THING TO ELWAY, BUT REMEMBER THE BRONCOS ARE NOT SLOUCHES THEYRE THE BEST AND WILL ALWAYS BE THE BEST TEAM IN FOOTBALL, FUCK ALL THE BRONCO HATERS AND FUCK BRADY HE AINT SHIT, BUT I WOULD LIKE TO C ELI AND PEYTON GO AT IT NEXT YEAR, BUT THOSE BUM ASS GIANTS MIGHT NEVER MAKE IT TO THE CHIP HA! HA!. BUT SERIOUSLY PEYTON KEEP UR HEAD UP AND GET READY FOR NEXT BABY BOY PREDICTION TIME!!!! LADIES AND GENTLEMEN THE 2015 SUPER BOWL CHAMPIONS : THE DENVER BRONCOS: YYEEAAHH BBAABBYY !!! LAUGH AT THAT U HATERS PEACE......FATTY WADDY 151 CREW BABY N.Y.C.......
Peyton Manning will never win another ring all you jock strap sniffing groupies please go watch women's soccer or curling
@Rpr444 What did you do this morning decide to got on here and make a fool of yourself? Congratulation you succeed fantastically. Come back when you have something intelligent to say! HERR HERR!
@mf1Sweet lord son meth much? this is the best post yet
@grock No one that knows anything about football ever said Peyton wasn't a great "QB" or "guy." And if the Seahawks did know his hand signals its because they went through game film and figured them out, which anybody can do and is not illegal. A smart QB would realize that the Seahawks seemed to know what the Broncos were going to do before they did it and changed things. Manning caused that bad snap by audiblizing when he knew his players were having trouble with crowd noise. There were a lot of factors involved in their loss, but Manning's play was one of the major ones. Just like Brett Farve, Manning is done. Unlike Farve, I hope Manning realizes it and walks away because he is not going to get another chance at a Super Bowl with the Broncos.
@CateCrane No respect for u at all! You people still won't admit that Manning just plain sucks.
hey peyton lover, how come he dint get top pass rating? cuz nick foles took it thas right.
@faris cowart I repeat, you are an idiot
@dribbledick Of course you would feel that way the Broncos whooped you twice and once in your own crib.
Very well said sir and Fox is just a nightmare of a coach but he is perfect for Peyton because he leaves Peyton alone and lets him call his own plays. I wish people would also stop calling Peyton the best of all time without a doubt he is one of the best to ever play that position but can you imagine Michael Jordon with one ring?
@dribbledick While I understand what you're saying dribbledick (good name), with how unbelievably weak the AFC is, I can see Denver going 12-4 or whatever again next year, getting right back to the super bowl, and getting a very similar result-- maybe against Seattle, or maybe SF, who knows. Denver fans may be cheering for the Donkeys to lose the afc championship so they don't get prison-stroked again in front of the entire world. Especially if John Fox is still coaching and Peyton choke-master is still QB'ing.
Unless Peyton Manning finds a way to become 27, no more Super Bowls for him.
@danimul46 Please don't log on and post here if you're an idiot. ANYone who is still saying that Tim Tebow can quarterback in the NFL should have their account revoked. Then, they should be publicly exposed so that we can all take turns slapping their stupid face. Don't be an idiot. Peyton sucks in the post-season, that is documented as a fact. However, he is still a better option than Tebow, and will be 12 years from now when he's 50 years old. In fact, Archie Manning RIGHT NOW is a better option than Timmy as an NFL quarterback.
Now shut up and quit posting dumb things. Thanks.
@danimul46 You're a fucking idiot.
@danimul46 exactly how stupid are you? Manning had the best statistical season by any quarterback in the history of the NFL and Tebow cannot even get signed by the lowly Jaguars.
@alfredos151 next to nick foles you mean... lmfao pass rating proves it/
Damn give me some of whatever you're smoking you must have missed the game I'll fill you in they got that arse busted out and Denver please don't ruin the franchise by passing on a QB just to keep Peyton happy please and Peyton its time sir you are one serious injury away from a wheelchair or being unable to move your neck at all go enjoy your family.
@mjac28 ha, ha - his fans would probably pay to smell his jock strap but not any real football fan would lower himself that low - go Raiders
@VoodooHoodoo @dribbledick Not sure if the AFC is going to be as "weak" in 2014 as it was in 2013. As long as the Pats have Brady and they get the Gronk back along with their other receivers staying healthy, they will be much better. So will the Chiefs, Chargers, Steelers, Bengals, Ravens and possibly the Dolphins. The NFC has two really strong teams in the Seahawks and the 49'ers, after that, not so much, it is about like the AFC. There are about 6 teams that can make things interesting in the NFC, just like the AFC, and as everyone knows, injuries can change a team's season in a heartbeat. And yes, Bronco fans will delude themselves again into thinking they have chance with Manning, although I think he knows the truth. Glad you like my screen name, It is a good "ice breaker."
@mjac28 he must be smoking something more potent than mary jane - he is smoking rolled up dry cow patties. that damn fool calling Brady crap ?? doesn't that damn fool realize the Patriots team was the walking wounded and most did not play
@danimul46 you are a Raiders fan and you are talking shit? They are the only team in the AFC West that didn't make the playoffs, how pathetic is that?
@dribbledick @thunderbolt64 @grock I have to basically agree. The entire team deserves 'credit' for getting worked like a rented mule by Seattle... but I put most of the blame on 1) Manning and 2) John Fox. No two ways about it: Manning is basically the offensive coordinator. His 'high powered' O put up exactly 1 TD, AND gave up a pick-six. That's pathetic. Manning may be the best regular season QB ever, but he ain't even in the top 10-15 best playoff QBs, he has CONSISTENTLY under-performed in the post-season.
@thunderbolt64 @dribbledick@grock At halftime, the Bronco coaches were trying to figure what time the game started! Basically, the coaches let Manning run the offense, he was supposed to be the "coach" on the field. Yes, the defense was equally horrible and if they keep Jack Off Del Rio as their DC, Chiefs fans will love it. But bottom line, leaders put a team on their back when they need to and Manning didn't. From the first offensive play of the game, which was Manning's fault, to being down 8-0 and throwing an interception, Manning just didn't have it. The team depended upon him all season and when they needed him most, he was on the sidelines hanging his head with a shell shocked expression on his face.
