Suggestions for betting on the first overall pick of the 2014 NFL draft

Sports betting in the NFL is a big business, and although the Super Bowl is long gone, that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t be able to continue throwing down money on the biggest sports league in America – right? Luckily, Vegas still has us covered, even in the offseason where we can bet on the most important event of the NFL offseason, the draft.

This year gives us the usual gamut of possible bets in the draft. The most popular bet will be on which prospect is selected first overall. The top two contenders for that honor have been Teddy Bridgewater and Jadeveon Clowney all along, but Johnny Manziel and Blake Bortles have at the very least stirred the pot a bit in recent weeks.

Although the big bookers in Vegas may set the standard for odds, most of us don’t have ready access to the Strip, leaving us with mostly online options in the betting game. This has been an area of huge growth in the past decade. If you’re interested in getting into the game, your best bet is looking into the metap guide for the online casinos business. That will get you in the door of online casino betting, and more importantly, giving you the ability to make important calls like who will be drafted first overall or where Johnny Manziel will be drafted.

For the Texans, this offseason is all about making up the ground they lost last season. That’s no easy task, especially because they’ve brought in new coaches, and owner Bob McNair has expressed a desire to move on from the Matt Schaub era.

To be competitive in the NFL, everyone knows you need a top-tier quarterback. Teddy Bridgewater appears to be the most pro-ready quarterback in this year’s draft, but even he may not be 100% ready to be an NFL starter in week one of the regular season.

In placing your bets for the first overall pick, the first question you really have to answer is, will the Texans reach for a quarterback, or will they select the best overall player in the draft? If you believe the Texans are going after a quarterback, Bridgewater is your pick. If, however, you believe the Texans are just looking for the most talented player in the draft, you’re pick is probably Clowney.

As always, place bets at your own risk. The good news for any potential gamblers out there is this. This isn’t a year where there are a handful of potential first overall picks. Initially, it was unclear just which player would go first overall, but Bridgewater and Clowney have separated themselves from the pack. At this point, it’s more of a philosophical question than a question of talent.

I’ll close this out by throwing in a simple thought. If the Texans want to make a playoff run in 2014, they need a competent quarterback far more than they need a defensive lineman. With that said, it’s clear what I think the Texans will be doing with the top pick in the draft, but then again, I’m not putting any money on it either.
